suck and rock no. 4
SUCK
- Working Saturdays. Correction: working Saturdays after having one too many drinks the night before. Ugh.
ROCK
- Getting a jump start on Christmas shopping. I've already purchased a couple gifts (but I'm not telling!) and am researching some fun crafty stocking stuffers. This air freshener pouch diy from Sincerely, Kinsey is beyond adorable.
- Having the house to myself. I love my hubs, but I enjoy when he goes out of town - I get to laze around in my jammies, eat ice cream, and watch Kiera Knightly period films to my heart's content.
- Sarah Von's list of 33 things she has learned in 33 years. Great advice, each and every one.
- Staying up until three in the morning drinking beers and having a spontaneous youtube browsing session with friends (remember that Friday night I just mentioned?). I'm pretty sure we watched every Gotye cover known to man. Pentatonix's is my favorite.
Personally, I'm a total sucker for a good cover. How about you? What are your feelings on cover bands?

nobody here but us librarians

occasion: work / Friday night out with the mister / dress: Strut / shoes: Naturalizer (last worn) / necklace: Deuce / watch: Michael Kors (last worn) / bracelet: Privileged (last worn) / purse: Coach thrifted via Goodwill (last worn)
Ok, ok, so I'm not a librarian...yet. I did start library school this week! So, that makes me a pre-librarian, I guess? Starting down a new path is always really scary - I'm making this huge time/money commitment, and I'm not really sure exactly where I'm going to be at the end of it. For now, though, that's half the fun.
I really wish I had gotten a picture of the necklace I was wearing. I've been drawn to patterns in general lately, but specifically geometric shapes (exhibits A, B, C, and D). It's a fad, so I haven't invested the money to incorporate many into my wardrobe. This necklace is the perfect little treat to satisfy my cravings for tasty, tasty triangles.

suck and rock report no. 3
SUCK
- Todd Akin. Nuff said.
ROCK
- I love discovering new authors that challenge and delight me. I've been tearing through Robin Sloan's short fiction and can't wait for his novel to come out in a couple months. This little number is next on the to-read list.
- GIFs of cats making biscuits. Never fails to put a smile on my face.
- Don't hate, but I've been totally obsessed with Dawson's Creek lately. I guess 90's fashion and teen drama really put all things in perspective for me. I'm a Pacey Witter girl myself.
How about you? Dawson or Pacey?

patterns, patterns, patterns

occasion: husband's birthday dinner / dress: American Apparel (last worn) / scarf: Little Minnow / shoes: Audrey Brooke (last worn) / purse: Purse and Clutch / sunnies: Ray Bans borrowed from the mister
As excited as I was when I purchased this dress, I've only worn it twice, both times for birthday celebrations (let's just say that with my lengthy frame it's a wee bit close to exposing my granny panties). Last week, it was Corban's special night. We went out for a fancy steak dinner, so I threw on a scarf to hide the food baby. It was then that I noticed I was wearing three distinctly different patterns and I was like, "Sweet! Nothing says 'party' like patterns, patterns, patterns!"

happy birthday, mr. johnson!

A very happy birthday today to my favorite person in the world, Mr. Corban Johnson. My Sun and Stars, you know it is true love because I married you even before I found out how damn fine you look in Wayfarers. Now you are foraying boldly into your late twenties. Not to worry, I'll follow along in a few short months. Keep a seat warm for me. I love you.
xoxo Chelle

Does this outfit say "Mr. Manager" to you? A black dress paired with a stripy cardigan is about as formal business as it gets for me. Which, I've found, can be somewhat confusing for hopeful applicants. They approach the desk, palms outstretched for the firm handshake, stating with confidence, "I have an interview with Mrs. Johnson," and I have grown accustomed to their looks of surprise when I reply, "I'm Mrs. Johnson."
I've been told that looking young is a good thing, but I fear that it means I will never strike terror into the hearts of incoming college freshmen.

suck and rock report no. 2

Suck
The mint is dead, you guys. The investigation is ongoing, but I suspect the cats.
Work has been bananas. B. A. N. A. N. A. S.
I will never be an Olympic gymnast. This has bummed me out since about age ten when I saw the Magnificent Seven win gold at the 1996 Olympics. Curse my hardy Germanic genes!
Rock
Fancy, fruity and/or herbaceous cocktails have been my jam this summer (and by "summer," I mean "forever.") The husband and I have even been busting out various accouterments, shaking, pouring, mixing, muddling, even, to make our own libations. Seriously, y'all, that mint plant didn't stand a chance. This cocktail in particular needs to get in mah face.
I've had a hair up my ass lately about buying a home. Would this in any way be a found financial decision? No. It takes an act of Congress for me to feel comfortable buying shoes, so an entire building is really out of the question. In the meantime, I'll just look at other people's gorgeous homes.
The mister and I took a spur of the moment trip to Austin last weekend, and let me tell you, we needed it. We walked, shopped, and ate all the things. We crawled Sixth Street like a couple of bachelorettes. We even got to have a leisurely brunch with a genuine Austinite at a delightful little cafe. I can actually feel my blood pressure decreasing, I'm so relaxed.
How about you guys? Any Suck and/or Rock to report?

las vegas 2012, the year of the flan face
Remember how Corban and I went to Vegas about a freaking month ago?

Well, I finally got around to remembering to blog about it. I think I've been putting it off because I'm a little ashamed. Are you ready for this? I lugged Vera through two airports, carried her from state to state, only to leave her languishing alone in the hotel room the entire trip.
Thank god for iPhone photos? Cause, that's all I've got, people. *le sigh*
Well, let's not cry over spilled pixles (hyuck, hyuck). On the to pictures. Alternate titles for this post include:
"Las Vegas 2012, the Year of the Reachy-Arm Self Pic."

"Las Vegas 2012, the Year of the Open-Mouth, Ceiling-Mirror Self-Pic."

"Las Vegas 2012, the Year of the Fancy Cocktail/Food."

"Las Vegas 2012, the Year of the Palm Tree Up Shot."

But, when it came down to it, this year was really all about the faces you make whilst eating flan.

Well, that's about it, folks. We went, we saw, we gambled it all away. We're likely to do it again next year.

musically inclined
I've been very musically inclined these days. From piddling around on the keyboard to wishing I could get the band back together, I constantly have a song in my head.
My newest heavy music crush is Laura Veirs. Her haunting tunes and melancholy poetry have been on repeat in my earbuds for at least the past two weeks. Wide Eyed, Legless especially has been the new theme song of my life. It's as though if I listen to it enough I may be able to physically touch the song.
Do you ever do that? Does a song or an album ever make you feel supernaturally connected to this crazy, crazy world? I sure hope so.
